Fair trade and sustainable development are playing an increasingly important role in many regions and cities in Germany. Churches and the Ecumenical Center in Frankfurt are constantly campaigning for this. Fair trading conditions should be promoted at the local level. In Germany, this is recognized through certification and the awarding of the titles “Fair Trade Town” and “Fair Metropolitan Region.”

After Fair Trade Germany re-examined the requirements, the award was extended for another two years this week for the Rhine-Main metropolitan region and the city of Frankfurt. The title renewal was celebrated in a ceremony in the Kaisersaal at the Römer in Frankfurt.
Frankfurt has been designated a Fairtrade Town since 2011, making it the first German city to receive this title. The associated certification has now been extended for another two years. The award recognizes the ongoing efforts of the municipality, in cooperation with business, civil society, and churches, to promote trading practices that create fairer conditions for producers in developing countries and support environmentally sustainable cultivation. The award also underscores the importance of promoting human rights and environmental protection throughout production and supply chains.
Rhein.Main.Fair is a platform created by and involving stakeholders from the greater Rhine and Main region, covering parts of three federal states: Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Bavaria. Rhein.Main.Fair promotes fair trade and sustainable development. It provides information, advises local authorities and educational institutions, promotes regional networking, and sets its own priorities through various campaigns. There is good cooperation with the churches, and the office is located in the Ecumenical Center: https://www.rheinmainfair.org/
