Enjoying the richness of Switzerland

After five days in Switzerland, I am back in southern Germany. It was an impressive tour along the borders to Germany, Austria, Italy and France.

The diversity of Switzerland, its mountains and changing vegetation, the barren heights of the peaks, the fertile green valleys, orchards and vineyards – it’s fascinating and impressive. Regional differences in architectural styles characterize the landscape. The Italian, French, Austrian and German influences – depending on the border region – are noticeable in everyday life and in the attitude to life. Landscapes have different smells. This can be perceived more intensely when riding a motorcycle. The same applies to the significant temperature differences at the top of the pass and down in the valley. It was a good time in Switzerland and reminded me of the tour eight years ago in the Indian part of the Himalayas to Ladakh.

After arriving via Radolfzell, the first day took me along Lake Constance on the Swiss side and proceeding via St. Gallen, Appenzell, Urnäch, Santis, Vaduz, Davos, and the Flüelapass to Ardez in the Engadin.

The second day took me through the Engadin, St. Moritz, and the Julierpass through the Albula Valley with a detour to the Glaspass. I continued through the Hinterrhein Valley via San Bernadino to Lugano.

On the third day, I first returned to Bellinzona and then continued through the Leventina Valley, the old Gotthard Road, and the Furka Pass to Brix, Sion, and Vex in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais.

The fourth day took me through the Rhone Valley to Montreux and Lausanne along Lake Geneva, over the Col du Marchairuz to Lac de Joux, and on to Yvonand on Lake Neuchâtel.

On my last day in Switzerland, I first traveled along Lake Neuchâtel to Biel and then continued over the Vorberg to Moutier and along the Brise Valley finally to Basel.
