Some representatives from our partner churches arrived a few days before 26 January. This gave them the opportunity to visit Frankfurt and Wiesbaden and for a farewell evening for Volker Jung in Arnoldshain.
In Frankfurt, we travelled in the footsteps of Luther with Pastor Jeffrey Myers. Martin Luther was in Frankfurt twice: on the outward journey to the Diet of Worms on 14 April 1521, when the people of Frankfurt courted the prominent guest, and on the return journey as a refugee.
In Wiesbaden – the capital of the state of Hesse – it was the hot thermal springs, the famous Kurhaus and casino and the historic city centre with the Marktkirche.
On the evening before the ceremonial service to mark the change in the office of church president, all the representatives from the partner churches were able to bid farewell to Volker Jung in Arnoldshain. They were moving moments in which his worldwide ecumenical commitment, his theological contributions to ecumenism, his intensive contacts with the church leaders of the partner churches in Africa, Asia, Europe and the USA – even in times of Corona through ZOOM conferences – were honoured.
