Several years back Tyndale-Biscoe & Mallinson School – an old established school of the Diocese of Amritsar (Church of North India) opened a branch in this rural area. Today around 480 students – mainly from a Muslim background – from more than 130 villages around Tangmarg are joining the school.
Kashmir is a place where 99% of the population belongs to the Muslim community. In 2010 again and again protest against the Indian government and the policy of the US Administration a raised. When rumors came up that in the US a Christian fundamentalist burnt the Koran an outraged Mob in Tangmarg burnt down several public buildings. One of these buildings was the Tangmarg branch of the Tyndale-Biscoe & Mallinson School.
With the support of the parents, the whole Tnyndal-Biscoe & Mallinson Society and the government of Kashmir the decision was made to rebuilt the school in the same place. With the financial help of the Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau as a long partner of the Diocese of Amritsar after six years now on the 2nd of May the new school building could be opened. During the opening ceremony all the students, their parents, the teachers and representatives of the government expressed their deep thanks to all who made this possible.
