Seeking Unity – Day 2 with an International Reception for Church President Christiane Tietz

On the evening of 28 January, we welcomed the new Church President Christiane Tietze with an international reception.

Christiane Tietz was introduced by the deputy Church President Ulrike Scherf. She highlighted some of the milestones from her biography:

“Christiane Tietz was born in Frankfurt am Main. She studied mathematics and Protestant theology to become a secondary school teacher. She received her doctorate in Protestant theology in Tübingen in 1999 and habilitated in 2004. 2008 she became a Professor of Theology at the University of Mainz. She was an appointed member of the Church Synod of the EKHN, and in the Council of the EKD. In 2013 she became an Ordinary Professor of Systematic Theology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. During this time, she was deputy chair of the EKD Study Center for Gender Issues in Church and Theology. She still was member of EKHN and became a delegate of EKHN in the EKD synod. She also served as Chairperson of the Theological Committee of the Union of Protestant Churches (UEK). Longer professional stays abroad have taken her to Chicago, New York and Princeton.”

All the international representatives gave Christiane Tietz a very warm welcome, presented gifts from their regions and invited her to come to their churches.
