After two days of lectures and discussions we concluded our International Conference on Saturday.
We learnt about present geopolitics in North East Asia, its impact on peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and about changes in the international order and for peace building for East Asia and Korea . We reflected on 50 years people to people’s solidarity towards peace on the Korean Peninsula and On the role of the Global Ecumenical Community for a permanent peace regime of the Korean Peninsula. Finally the international conference came out with a Communiqué “God of Life, Renew All Creation in Your Love” honoring the NCCK’s historic and continuing ministry for justice, human rights, creation care, and for peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula. Despite all ecumenical efforts in the last four decades, the current situation on the Korean Peninsula represents a new low point of division, renewed tensions and escalating confrontation. This makes it all the more important for the the global ecumenical community to keep solidarity and accompaniment with the people on the Korean Peninsula struggling for peace and reunification. We re-committed ourselves to support and participate in the Korea Peace Appeal led by the NCCK and other initiatives alongside civil society to replace the armistice agreement with a peace agreement.
