The National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK), which began as the ‚Chosun Christian United Assembly‘ on September 24, 1924, celebrated today its 100th anniversary.
The jubilee was commemorated in a special Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service under the theme „Thanksgiving and Reunification“ through liturgical acts, reaffirming the principles of church unity, reconciliation, and the values of God‘s kingdom – justice, peace, and life – as the guiding spirit of NCCK‘s past 100 years, today, and into the next century.
A touching moment of the service was the „Prayer for Unity in One Body for the Next Century“. After receiving the communion we gathered around the centennial memorial cross holding hands and praying together for unity, reconciliation, justice, peace, and life:
„God of life, through the Eucharist, You fill us with life and joy, and we give thanks for making us one body with Christ. We are especially grateful for Your word and bread of life today, which has opened our eyes and rekindled our hearts. Lord, we ask that, with the new faith and courage You have given us, we may strive ever more for the unity and oneness of the church in this new century. With the power of the Holy Spirit flowing through us, may we become workers for Your kingdom, cultivating love, life, peace, and justice anew. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God. Amen!“
